Book Overview

The purpose of this handbook is to provide a simple checklistof where the surviving cannon of all ages and eras in Prince Edward Island arenow, and to provide a photograph of each of the major types mentioned forrecognition purposes.

The guns and equipment are listed by location, calibre, name, weight, serial number, Royal cycpher and maker. A brief description of cannon’s service history during its use in Canadaor by the British and Canadian military is included, along with how it came tobe in the location it is in now.  The bookincludes guns and vehicles that have been or are currently on display, restoredand preserved, particularly where they are of significant historical interest.

Due to space limitations, the details contained in thishandbook are limited to a selection of only those surviving pieces of artillerythat can be found in or have a connection with Prince Edward Island.  The story of the gun worldwide is vast andbeyond the confines of just one book.

It is my sincere hope that the list of Canada’s preserved andhistorically significant artillery and artefacts will continue to grow as moreof them are recovered and restored.  Itis my hope that you find this handbook useful.
