Barrier Island X, Atlantis

Athanasius Kircher's map of Atlantis, placing it in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, from Mundus Subterraneus 1669, published in Amsterdam. The map is oriented with south at the top.

End of Atlantis

German scientist O.H. Muck has made a determination from the highly detailed Mayan calendar that the exact moment of the end of Atlantis came on 05 June 8498 BC 20:00 Hours Local Time. His research suggests that Atlantis was a flourishing island empire in the present-day Azores.  It was dominated by an awesome volcano that rose majestically from sea level through the clouds to the sky, the tallest mountain known in the world, and the most dramatic symbol of an Atlantean pyramid civilization that stretched from Mesopotamia in the East to the Mayan world in the West.  This world was instantaneously shattered when the core parts of an asteroid (Asteroid “A”) several miles in diameter plunged through the earth’s crust off the Carolina coast (in the fracture zone of the Atlantic Ridge), with the unimaginable force of 30,000 hydrogen bombs.  The globe wobbled on its axis. The island of Atlantis sank. The Gulf Stream went north. The Ice Age receded. A deluge and a gigantic tidal wave wiped out human, animal and plant life.  Gases, steam, mud and debris blacked out the sky, darkening the Northern Hemisphere for 2000 years.  This is one explanation for the shifting of the axis of the earth, the rearrangement of the poles.  It would also account for the destruction and recreation of glaciers, the asphyxiation and freezing of several hundred thousand mammoths.  It would explain the raising of dead mastodons from the swamps of Cartagena to the hills of Bogota when the northeast corner of South America tilted suddenly down into the Atlantic as the northwest corner rose above the Pacific.  This “tilt” suddenly hoisted the great temple of Tiahuanaco from the hot tropical sea-level, to the chill, rarefied air of the present Andes, 12,000 feet above the sea.  From this cataclysmic moment, signified by the triple conjunction of the Sun, the Moon, and Venus, the Maya are said tocount their time.  The civilization of Atlantis vanished, leaving only fragmented folk memories of a lost land.  The Chilam Balam, the Popul Vuh, the Voluspa, and many other ancient traditions testify to a horrendous cataclysm when a great flaming snake fell from the skies to the sea, submerging the land.

Oceanographers have discovered great holes in the Bermuda Triangle, apparently made by some gigantic force.  The Soviets have determined that a large landmass dropped out of the bottom of the Atlantic in the area of the mid-Atlantic Ridge in recent geological times, (this would be consistent with Mucks dates).

Al and mass about 154,400 square miles (400,000 square kilometers) in the region of the present Azores sank about 2 miles (3km) during the Quaternary Age approximately 12,000 years ago.  It is known as Barrier Island X, and was likely Atlantis.  It is known that icecaps have reached as far down as 50 degrees North.  The boundary between the icebound and ice-free regions is identifiable by the piled-up debris of rock known as the belt of terminal moraines.  Prior to the sinking of Barrier Island X, the ice reached approximately the same level South in Europe as it did in North America.  After its sinking, the Gulf Stream was able to run North-Eastwards and warmed up the European area, forcing the glacial ice boundary much further North than in North America, as is evident from the present location of the moraines in Europe.  A more recent (1995) theory is that the original Atlantis is now under the Antarctic ice.  Two Canadian scientists contend that before the earth tilted, Antarctica would have been at the centre of the earth, and the distances mentioned in the original stories of Atlantis much more appropriate.  Ithas been demonstrated with radar that the continent of Antarctica is indeed really principally two islands covered in glacial ice. The only primary sources for Atlantis are Plato's dialogues Timaeus and Critias; all other mentions of the island are based on them. The dialogues claim to quote Solon, who visited Egypt between 590 and 580 BC; they state that he translated Egyptian records of Atlantis. Plato introduced Atlantis in Timaeus, written in 360 BC:

For it is related in our records how once upon a time your State stayed the course of a mighty host, which, starting from a distant point in the Atlantic ocean, was insolently advancing to attack the whole of Europe, and Asia to boot. For the ocean there was at that time navigable; for in front of the mouth which you Greeks call, as you say, 'the pillars of Heracles,' there lay an island which was larger than Libya and Asia together; and it was possible for the travelers of that time to cross from it to the other islands, and from the islands to the whole of the continent over against them which encompasses that veritable ocean. For all that we have here, lying within the mouth of which we speak, is evidently a haven having a narrow entrance; but that yonder is a real ocean, and the land surrounding it may most rightly be called, in the fullest and truest sense, a continent. Now in this island of Atlantis there existed a confederation of kings, of great and marvelous power, which held sway over all the island, and over many other islands also and parts of the continent. The clairvoyant Edgar Cayce spoke frequently of Atlantis. During his "life readings", he claimed that many of his subjects were reincarnations of people who had lived there. By tapping into their collective consciousness, the "Akashic Records" (a term borrowed from Theosophy), Cayce declared that he was able to give detailed descriptions of the lost continent. He also asserted that Atlantis would "rise" again in the 1960s (sparking much popularity of the myth in that decade) and that there is a "Hall of Records" beneath the Egyptian Sphinx which holds the historical texts of Atlantis.
